Happy National Meatball Day! What better way to celebrate than to start my monthly review of M3 (Mercato’s Meatball of the Month)! If you aren’t aware, one of downtown Pittsburgh’s most popular bar/restaurant does a meatball of the month – and I never miss out. I’ll make sure to always try it incase you can’t.

This month, the Emporio went with a Phat Tuesday Bowl in honor of Mardi Gras celebrations (they also changed their menu up – you should go check it out!). This bowl includes two Jumbalaya balls over a bed of creole rice with a lobster creme sauce.
The ball consists of chicken, shrimp, and Andouille sausage rolled together with rice and some Louisiana charm (creole seasoning). Now, don’t get me wrong, I normally enjoy fish, but this ball has too big of shrimp pieces for my liking. Also, the lobster creme sauce is a bit heavy, though its flavor complements the ball well. And finally, the creole rice is a bit spicy, and does a good job of adding a Phat Tuesday flair to the dish. All in all, while I’ve had better M3 experiences, this meal sure did bring me back to my times in New Orleans. Can’t wait to try April’s meatball!
